Social Internet a tool for helping

With Thanksgiving and the holiday season approaching, individuals, businesses and organizations have an opportunity not only to share and do good in our community but also to take part in social good, using the power of the social Internet.

The social Internet provides platforms to join and support online causes with money and an equally valuable currency — your time and passion.

While large companies such as USAA, H-E-B and Valero support many local causes in the online and offline worlds, individuals and small businesses can do likewise by uniting to give them the voice of a much larger group.

Here in San Antonio, Holly Julian is facing the biggest challenge of her life: a double-lung transplant at University Transplant Center. While she has insurance, out-of-pocket and post-transplant expenses are expected to run close to $100,000. To help offset the costs associated with the lung transplant surgery, Holly and her husband, Steve, were advised to seek fundraising efforts supported by a nonprofit organization such as National Foundation for Transplants, which they did.
